Dialoguing is very important in creating a strong network. When done correctly, it can promote communication and inspire us to do more than we could imagine. This portion of the seminar will go through a series 4 activities to introduce one form of dialoguing. This dialogue blog will be ongoing after the 2013 Adaptabilities/Disabilities Seminar and Dialogue Session ends so we hope this session will stimulate new ideas which we can further develop through input to this blog and other conversations!

Group Discussion Guidelines
  • Everyone has wisdom.
  • We need everyone’s wisdom for the wisest result.
  • There are no wrong answers.
  • The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
  • Everyone will hear others and be heard.
We have tried to make each groups diverse based on your registration so we can all get different perspectives. When we ask “who” is in your group, we want to focus on our experiences working with disabilities in the work place. Do not feel pressured to think you should have substantial experience; we are here today to get a better grasp of this topic!

Comment on this post listing who the participants are (not including names). Example: 5 people – 2 summer jobs students; one mother of a student, one Canada Summer Jobs employer and one grade 11 teacher.
This is an individual activity.

Whether you are a employer looking for employees, a student looking for summer employment, or a support person, you have an idea about the expectations and goals one should hope to achieve throughout the summer period.  Please list these goals and expectations by commenting in this post.  Indicate your perspective without giving your name.  For example, a grade 11 teacher.

Get together with your group.

a) Check the other comments to get a perspective on what others want.

b) Discuss what you think someone with a disability would want in terms of summer employment? How can someone with a disability achieve this goal? What resources do you/they require? How can one obtain these resources?

c) Please summarizes your group's discussion by commenting in this post.

How can we all adapt, regardless of whether we have a disability or not, to work from our strengths?

a) Discuss this with your group and make comments in this post.

b) As this is the last activity for conversation #1, make any other comments or summaries of your conversation, the dialogue process, or what you would like to see in future conversations.
